A little bit about Wales/Cymru

I would like to take the time and tell you a little bit about where I am from.  I am first and foremost an American.  I was born and raised here however, while I love my country I believe that it is very important for us all to remember that we are "a nation of immigrants."  I myself have a mixture of cultures.  My mom is Italian-American, and my Father is Welsh-American.  Recently have taken great pride in my Welch heritage.  Niot too many people know where you are from if you say you are Welsh.  Therefore, this page will seek to educate some of you on Wales (Cymru).

While I personally would like to tell you the history of Cymru (Wales), I think it would be better to provide a link so taht you may get the history of Wales from a Wesh perspective.

History of Wales/Cymru

*While surfing the Britannia site on Wales/Cymru, be sure to explore all the areas including The Welsh language (even though Wales is located in England, the language is very different), also check out the cultural traditions, Facts, Seven Wonders, Welsh Proverbs, Timeline, and Welsh Royal Families.

BEHIND THE NAME:
Have you ever wondered what your name means?  Well, I have and I recently checked a website that has that listings of what first names mean....here is what I found for Michael:

In Welsh Michael is actually:  MIHANGEL
It is the contraction of MICHAEL and "Archangel", representative of the Archangel Michael.

*The name Michael has its origins in English, German, Czech, and Biblical

The actually name Michael means the following:

From the Hebrew name Miyka'el which meant "who is like God?". This was the name of one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only one identified as an archangel in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation in the New Testament he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies, and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers. This was also the name of nine Byzantine emperors and a czar of Russia. Other more modern bearers of this name include the 19th-century chemist/physicist Michael Faraday and basketball player Michael Jordan.
